DIY Bird Toys – One Creation Led To Another And Another…

A few months back, out of boredom i bought two pairs of parakeets and two pairs of african lovebirds. Upon watching these birds, i came to realized that they are very playful and like kids they also love toys and so i roamed around every petshop just to look for nice bird toys they can play with. I was able to buy a few but it get broken by my birds in a day or two, some just last for hours , although thats the way it must be — it only mean that i got healthy playful energetic pets. I saw beautiful bird toys in the internet but they cost much being imported. One more thing i do not have a card or a paypal account to buy toys from the online store. With that i have decided to make toys instead. With my bare hands and the supplies and materials which i bought in bulk, one creation led to another creation and so forth. I fancied doing the bird stuff which made my birds happier and geezz they multiplied tenfolds. My birds pen becomes a sight in the community i live with, many children would come and see my birds. And others have insisted ordering and buying my pets and accessories, that made ibonlandia came to existence.

Cut up the cardboard roll out of a roll of toilet paper or paper towels. Then wrap small, non-perishable treats (like nuts) in toilet paper or newspaper, and stuff it in the roll. Stick the whole thing between the bars of the cage. It’s a tried and much loved homemade bird toy used by most bird owners. it provides a lot of cheap fun for your bird, and costs you nothing.

Porcupine Parrot Toy for Amazon Parrots and African Grey Parrots (Junior)

Porcupine Parrot Toy for Amazon Parrots and African Grey Parrots (Junior)

    • Ideal bird toy for Amazon Parrots, African Grey Parrots, Eclectus Parrots, Pionus Parrots, Rose Breasted Cockatoos, Goffin Cockatoos and…all similar sized birds
    • Bird Toy measures 13″ long by 8″ wide
    • Bird Toys are made with bird safe materials
    • All our Bird Toys are Bird tested…Bird approved

This porcupine is harmless?. ….In fact he’s a lot of chewable fun. This bird toy was designed with feather pluckers in mind. Since most feather pluckers like to pluck and chew on the sheaths of their feathers, these plastic straws mimic the feel of the sheath of a feather. I made a similar toy for my feather plucking Umbrella Cockatoo Marshmellow. This parrot toy really helped her which is why I created a smaller version for African Grey and Amazon size birds. My Amazon “Kiwi” is pictured here although he is not a feather plucker he just loves to have fun chewing on the straws and wood. Parrot toy contains 28 straws, 2 Tropical Tubes, 1 alphabet letter and an 8″ wood base

My 5 month old eclectus is starting to barber his feathers? HELP!?

Question by ?: My 5 month old eclectus is starting to barber his feathers? HELP!?
by barber I don’t mean plucking the whole feather out, only the soft part, leaving the hard “line” which it’s attached to intact. hope that makes sense. I dont think its because of mites, he was sprayed for them around a month ago and his cage is cleaned daily. I am his original owner and handfeeder so it’s not because of the stress of changing homes. the only thing I can think of is that i’ve been taking evening classes (4.00pm-9.30pm) on and off during the last few weeks. that has been the only change. he is fed his regular fruit and veg diet with a minimal amount of seed every day. today when I saw him pulling at the feather (he was acutally trying to hold it with his foot and barber it at the same time) – I tried to distract him with a toy and some food. is this the right thing to do? I also gave him extra out of cage time today. should I get him some “grooming” toys? I dont want him to become a plucker :(

    help please

yes obviously I have handfed other birds if i’m handraising/weaning an eclectus. I already mentioned what his diet consists of – fruits and vegs and a minimal amount of seed. I do not have ‘poor handfeeding practices’. I keep things hygenic. he has had over 4 vet checkups in the few months i’ve had him. no reason for me to think he has a yeast infection as his crop is emptying fine.

this is a very young age to start, but it probably has something to do with the fact that he’s been by his self. turn the TV on for him while you have to be gone. See if this helps

help!!!!! i think my parrot is plucking feathers?

Question by Erick: help!!!!! i think my parrot is plucking feathers?
ok a couple of weeks ago like 2 if i can remember my african parrots head started losing feathers on his head and i thought ok well its a molt. they grew in but then he looked all ugly through out his body. but 2 days ago he started taking off some of his feathers around his neck, and now you can see his neck but on his neck there are some pin feathers. is he molting or is he plucking. i feed him a lot of apples fruits, and you know his diet. i have toys on his cage and a rope. oh yeah i see him scratch a lot. he just turned one like 2 months ago so im worried.

Like you said, they might just be molting but to be on the safe side, you should go to the vet because they might have mites. Mites are just like a dog and fleas. They annoy them and it makes their feathers fall. Something else that might be happening is they are bored. When birds are bored, they just pluck their feathers so make to spend lots of time with them too! :)

Question by Birds: How do i make homemade safe toys for my parrotlet?

I know, those toys cost like 5-10 $! Use some yawn, something soft, stringy, and something made of wood. They also like thing that make noise. Not alot of noise, just little dingling things. maybe beads on a string, but make sure they are not swallowable, just big enough for then to hold in thier mouth.
