Go and buy one. It’s quicker than making them. And you’re really overreacting!

Baby Black Headed Caiques playing in their baby toy basket

Playful baby Caiques on the bed. They love to play in the basket, but then eventually crawl and hop out to come waddling over to momma to snuggle up against my hip to sleep. They are so funny as they grow. Two totally different personalities, but very endearing. Sorry this one is a bit dark, my room was dimly lit at the time I took the video.

To supplement or not to supplement? molting parrots?

Question by bonnieblue716: To supplement or not to supplement? molting parrots?
I did look through the other molting questions before posting, i didn’t come across what i wanted to know. My 4 year old nanday conure Echo seems to be molting the whole back of his head. Which doesn’t surprise me since he was a sympathy buy from a bad pet store three months ago. He was on a seed only diet and had ancient looking toys with him and no where to bathe. First thing he did after getting a better water dish was take a bath and have a through preen. His feathers have been improving but now it seems he’s got pin feathers coming in all in the back of his neck. He seems fine though extremely itchy. Is there anything i can do or give him, besides access to full spectrum light to help his molting. I have tried giving him the dried egg supplement for molting and breeding birds but he doesn’t like it. He loves being rubbed right now but i’m afraid of hurting or damaging a blood/pin feather. He’s always preening me (a bit rougher than he typically does, like he wants me to scratch harder) should i really dig at the sheathes on the open feathers for him or just trust them to dissolve naturally?

    Answer by Vee
Your parrot can do most of her own preening, but might need help around hard-to-reach areas like the head and neck to cope with molting.

Spray your parrot with warm water daily. This helps with the itching. The warm water spray provides your parrot with moisture to prevent feather sheaths from drying out and becoming hard. It helps relieve itchiness.

Increase protein in the diet also. Beans along with whole grain will do the trick.

Timothy ‘The Budgie’ Playing Throw – The – Ball!

Possibly the best £1.00 I ever spent was on a budgies toy which has 4 plastic balls on it. Tim, our budgie loves to throw these balls onto the floor from the coffe table, flys down and toss the balls all around the living room.

sometimes a large flat bottom bowl of shellgrit is good for them to sift thru…a mirror…a cutlebone for calcium…my cocktiel used to love nibbling on an occasional thistle…use natural branches with varying widths so her feet can adjust to any branch otherwise their feet can only use one thickness…a bell can be good 2…
