The problem with larger cages is that it is difficult to move them around. So, those who prefer to shift their parrot cage now and then cannot go in for too large ones. Readymade ones are available in all sizes and will be available with wheels for rolling them around, or hooks for hanging them. Whether homemade or readymade, it should be checked that cages do not have on them toxic paint that can harm the bird.

A parrot cage must have perches of different levels to keep the bird active. Every cage that you buy from the market will have them, but they can be occasionally changed or new things added to stimulate the bird. Colorful tassels and ribbons, especially those that match the bird’s color, can be hung around a cage to make it an eyeful. A parrot cage may have a flat, or a dome shaped or conical roof. Aesthetics will have to play an important part in choosing the right one, but you should also make sure that there is no space wastage inside.

I have the opertunity to get a paip of bonded quaker parrots, with the cage and toys. Recently my moms other bird died and she has been waqnting another bird. She had a canary before. Do you think these birds would be a good choice, or are they really loud. My mom doesnt mind singing, chirping, talking ect.., But She wouldnt like a lot of screaching. My brothers girlfriend has an african grey that she brings over and my mom just loves it. Do you think these would be a good choice of a bird for my mom?

I have caiques, which are very similar to lories in energy level. Anything they can sink their beak into and chew to bits they LOVE. I’ll sit and read the newspaper while at least one of them is systematically shredding it.
They also love things that make noise, like balls with bells in them (I actually buy them cat toys that have bells and “buzzers” in them).

So you want to own a Parrot?

Before you go Parrot hunting there are some things you MUST know. Noise is a main concern for people as it can get VERY annoying, A smaller bird doesn’t always mean less sound. I own a medium sized parrot and I can hear him call for me from a block away, is your neighbors okay with that? Can you provide the toys and food every day, a strict seed diet is NOT healthy. They need nuts fruits Veggies DAILY as treats and you have to be careful what diet the bird is on. A trail mix diet is good, if the bird doesn’t just pick out his favorite and leaves the rest to the floor. A pellet diet isnt the best either, alot of pellet diets have made some birds sick and well, lets face it ITS BORING! I personally like to make my parrot his own food atleast once a week using oatmeal corn, corn, peas, green beans, beans, grains, nuts dried fruits all cooked and warm meals they LOVE remember to take the temperature before feeding as crop burn CAN be fetal. I also bake for Monty he likes muffins and pizza but not too much :P Parrots make A lot of mess so if your thinking less mess less noise less neediness than a Cockatiel, Budgie or Green Cheek Conure is the way to go. All birds can be loud Cockatiels are very friendly and great with beginners Budgies are the ultimate beginner bird and Conures are the higher class but louder but they are ALOT of fun and Conures are what I would tell you to get. Of course! He will start plucking if he doesn’t. All birds — especially large birds, need toys for stimulation and something to do. He will need at least 5 toys. You should change 1 every week, or change them all every 3-4 weeks.
You should have research and known this before you got him. He should also have a large cage, about this size:
