what can i do to get my cockatoo to play with toys?

Question by screaming TOO: what can i do to get my cockatoo to play with toys?
my cockatoo has many toys in her home. i don’t consider it a cage, it is her own personal space so i refer to it as her home. i have hundreds of dollars in toys for her in her home, and she refuses to play with any of them. i have all shapes, sizes, colors, textures, and noises available to her to chew on and play with. she is more interested in tearing her cage apart one 2×4 at a time.(just for the record, i wasn’t aware that cockatoos like to destroy items before i built my cockatoos home. so that explains the 2×4 frame). Is this toy issue a problem that i should worry about? Or is there some kind of a behavior issue that she has obtained from one of here previous 3 owners?

You didn’t know before you got this bird that Too’s are notoriously chainsaws with wings?? You couldn’t possibly give her anything she’d rather chew on than a 2×4, seriously. It’s perfectly normal Too behavior sweetie. She’s just being herself. Mine will eat the door frames and the window moulding if given a chance…that’s much better than any toy if you’re a Too.
You’re going to have to get her out of this 2×4 cage or this is never going to stop. You’re not going to interest her in toys until you get all that “naked wood” from around her. WOW…I guess she IS in paradise….LOLOL. What a cute story.
The only other thing I can suggest is to let her see YOU interested in and playing with the toys. Just suck up to her, that’s what I do when I bring home a new toy that Goblin turns her cere up at.

Would You Purchase From This Website?

Question by Natylee: Would You Purchase From This Website?
I have my own bird toy business where I make all the bird toys and sell them online. I was wondering if you could check out my website and see if it’s a website you’d potentially purchase toys from for your own bird(s)?
I’ve posted a similar question in the past but I’ve made a couple adjustments to the website and have all new toys. Please post any comments as an answer and let me know what I can do to improve!
    Thank you!

Buzzo the blue budgie has a new tree toy

I made a new tree/perch/toy for Buzzo tonight after a lot of help and ideas were mailed to me by a special friend. So far he’s only used one side of it, probably becayse it has the same type of cat ball as he’s used to playing fetch with. He did absolutely love it though :)

Why does my parakeet keep humping her hanging rope toy?

Question by GirlGreat: Why does my parakeet keep humping her hanging rope toy?
It’s this messy knot of rope and wooden beads that a few of my birds like to chew on and try to tear up, but she likes to climb on top and hump it. She’s definitely a girl… her ceres is all crusty and brown and goss. Is she in heat or something?

question about my indian ringneck ?

Question by Sharon D: question about my indian ringneck ?
hi so i got a IRN 1 week ago today , she is gorgeous , i think she is a she because she is 6months old and doesnt seem to have the black ring round her neck . so the man i got her from only got her a few weeks ago but she was from a aviery , and he only got her to fill his cage untill he got a cockatoo ( shocking i know ) , he never interacted with her either and she was in the smallest cage ever !! . so now she is with us , and we love her , she has a 5ft cage and lots of toys , she adores . well i have been spending lots of time with her , talking to her , she has came out her cage and has a walk about ( the old owner had her wings clipped also ) . but she is so scared , she will sit and listen to u , and will come over when her cage door is shut , but as i said even if we walk by sometimes she jumps to the back of her cage . she has squalked a couple of times and seems to like us talking to her . so anyway my question is , will i be able to hand tame her if i keep persiting with her , i dont want to stress her out !!!

sorry its long but thanks for taking the time to help me xx
i also put my hand into her cage and just keep it still , she walks about still with my hand there but if i move it she flips xx

My son rescued a ringneck a few years back. He had her for about a year along with his Greencheek Conure. They adapted to one another but Harmony never warmed up to my son. She’d come out of her cage and sit on top, watch what was going on but didn’t like to “step up”. He gave her to a lady that had other birds and a lot of time to spend with her and she developed into a very affection, well adjusted, happy companion. It can take a while, but they have to adjust to the environment change and it’s probably best to keep the wings clipped, not as apt to hurt herself if she gets startled. Love and care is the best you can do, you just have to be patient with her, we never know what a rescue has been through.
