Audi the Eclectus parrot playing with toys
Category: Videos

This was a few months back. I had just bought some toys and Audi started to investigate. He’s looking quite ratty in this video, but was going through a molt, especially around his neck… weird huh. But he’s all nice and fluffly now.

If he’s a baby, chances are good that he’s about to go through his first moult. That’ll make any little one uncomfortable. Also, depending on just HOW young he is, he is possibly still in the stage where he is trying to communicate with his mother.

What are good rewarding treats for an Eclectus?
Question by Meleah: What are good rewarding treats for an Eclectus?
I have a 12 week old Eclectus Boy. I have started potty training him, which is going really well, and he is doing extremely well with three commands i’m teaching him. Up, Down and stay.
I’m stuck as to what rewards are good for these little guys? I’m about to remove sunflower seed for his daily seeds/pellets and use that of an evening as a treat. As i have been told this is very fatty for them.
So his diet will consist of 70% fresh fruit and veg………30% of mixed pellet and seed(without sunflower in it) and then reward treats will be sunflower seeds. What else could i use as a reward. I have been told dehydrated Fruit is great to leave in all day for the little guy.
He has a decent size cage, with heaps of toys to keep him amused.

You could give him millet as a treat, though I’m not sure if that’s in your seed mix.
You could also give him larger nuts, or just nuts, that are easy to crack open.
Dehydrated fruit sounds good.
I hope this helped!

My Female Eclectus parrot won’t stop screaming, can anyone please help me?

Question by pra09q: My Female Eclectus parrot won’t stop screaming, can anyone please help me?
I own a 1 year old female Eclectus parrot. She has a screaming problem. I was told they were quiet birds. She has a roomy cage, I rotate her toys every 2 weeks, and I take her out every day. I don’t expect her to be quiet all the time because she is a parrot but she screams for no reason. Even when I cover her because she is screaming excessivly, she still screams with the cover on. She also doesn’t have certain times of the day when she screams, which I know some parrots do. She just screams for no reason, at any time of the day, and its ear scattering. The only time she is quiet is at night. When she starts screaming I cover her cage and then when she’s quiet, I’ll uncover her and she’ll start screaming again. I don’t know what else to do. She talks, is very tame, and sweet but I need to try and control her screaming. Could she be lonely for another bird? Anyone with any type of parrot experience please help me. I need some good advice. Thanks Alot.

My 5 month old eclectus is starting to barber his feathers? HELP!?

Question by ?: My 5 month old eclectus is starting to barber his feathers? HELP!?
by barber I don’t mean plucking the whole feather out, only the soft part, leaving the hard “line” which it’s attached to intact. hope that makes sense. I dont think its because of mites, he was sprayed for them around a month ago and his cage is cleaned daily. I am his original owner and handfeeder so it’s not because of the stress of changing homes. the only thing I can think of is that i’ve been taking evening classes (4.00pm-9.30pm) on and off during the last few weeks. that has been the only change. he is fed his regular fruit and veg diet with a minimal amount of seed every day. today when I saw him pulling at the feather (he was acutally trying to hold it with his foot and barber it at the same time) – I tried to distract him with a toy and some food. is this the right thing to do? I also gave him extra out of cage time today. should I get him some “grooming” toys? I dont want him to become a plucker :(
help please
Niki
yes obviously I have handfed other birds if i’m handraising/weaning an eclectus. I already mentioned what his diet consists of – fruits and vegs and a minimal amount of seed. I do not have ‘poor handfeeding practices’. I keep things hygenic. he has had over 4 vet checkups in the few months i’ve had him. no reason for me to think he has a yeast infection as his crop is emptying fine.

this is a very young age to start, but it probably has something to do with the fact that he’s been by his self. turn the TV on for him while you have to be gone. See if this helps
