Using some wire, beads bells or chains from a craft store, and some 1-3inch thick straight sticks (length depends on toy). Get the sticks from any tree, just be sure the wood/bark isnt toxic. Gum trees work great as their wood is hard, durable and resistant to a birds chewing.

So I love my cockatoo dearly but he squawks so much because he’s bored. I want to get him toys but it’s more a matter of finding ones that he won’t destroy, at the moment all he has are some plastic things to amuse him self and a bell because he can’t break that easily, I have tree branches in his cage for perches but I can’t think of anything else. Any help please? And don’t say toilet rolls because they just get ripped apart and need to be pulled out of the bottom of his cage at the end of the week. Thanks

I have two cockatoos and I have the same problem. I give mine pine cones and smaller tree branches they can hold. I buy UNTREATED pine from the hardware store and cut it up into smaller pieces. The toos love these as they can hold them with their feet. Anything you give your birds to chew will make a mess, that’s just part of owning a cockatoo as chewing is part of their life. I clean my cockatoos cages every day as well as my other 3 cages. I have 9 birds.
