Need Some Info On Indian Ring-Necked Parrot?

Question by countrygal_cc: Need Some Info On Indian Ring-Necked Parrot?
Today at the pet store I bought a Ringneck Indian Parrot cost total 375 with cage very costly. It is solid yellow I am a little confused cause when I looked up my bird online on a lot of searches I get
Ringneck Indian Parakeet why is that? This bird I got is a baby bird. I was told these birds talk that’s why I got him. I am not sure yet if he is a she or he so I am guessing cause there is no ring around his neck how long does it take them to talk?
This bird seems to be a very good bird he goes get sleepy some though he likes to be close to me and doesn’t like to walk around a lot. What are some tricks to teach them and hows the best way to train them to talk also what good fruits do they eat? I am giving mine cockatiel seed at the pet store they said this was ok. Any info would be good. Also on toys what do they like?
Misty
PS- I also have a cockatiel and keep her in another cage. Would it be best to keep this bird in another room in their cage I wasn’t sure to put them close.

Yes, it would be better to keep them in separate rooms. If you already have a bird, you’re supposed to quarantine new ones for at least a month and get them checked by an avian vet to prevent illnesses possibly getting passed between them. But after you’re sure the new bird is healthy, you can put them in the same room (but they still need their own cages).
Also, ability to talk is no reason to get a bird. The only reason you should get a bird is if its size, needs, and temperament match what you want in a companion. Talking is only a bonus; just because a bird species can learn to talk doesn’t mean every individual will. But it’s great that your bird likes to be close to you already! I’m sure you two will be great friends!
As for the search thing, Indian ringnecks actually are a type of parakeet, though they’re a little big for most people to think of them as such, I think.

Is this bird cage big enough for one Indian ringneck?

Question by Will: Is this bird cage big enough for one Indian ringneck?
I have never had a bird ive been reading up and stuff and im just wondering if this birdcage will be suitable, http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=238880848
If its not what size should I try to get and is there any way i could make one? I have acces to workshops but what should I use? The bird cage woudl be going in my room and would have hours and hours out everyday to play. I nkow I will end up building my won bird gym and foraging toys and stuff and also could some people give me tips and other information? It would REALLY help if I could just ask someone questions and they could help me with an expert and useful answer.
Thanks, Will
Also I asked a question on that and they said they didnt know but they had a cockateil in it. I looked on youtube and it looks like IRN and cockateils are the same size but IRN’s have longer tails.

No this cage is too small for an indian ringneck. IRNs are actually bigger than cockatiels. That cage would be suitabe for a budgie or cockatiel. your bird will need a larger cage to accomodate it’s longer tail and also so it will have more room to move around when you’re not there to play with it. I have searched on ebay (this is where i got both my parrot cages from) and have supplied you with a link in which I think would be a suitable sized cage: http://cgi.ebay.com/Parrot-Bird-Playtop-Cage-for-Macaws-African-Greys-32x23_W0QQitemZ120460804928QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0c060340&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
this one is quite expensive, i’m just using it as an example. i’m sure you could find cheaper.
What do you think? Answer below!
question about my indian ringneck ?
Question by Sharon D: question about my indian ringneck ?
hi so i got a IRN 1 week ago today , she is gorgeous , i think she is a she because she is 6months old and doesnt seem to have the black ring round her neck . so the man i got her from only got her a few weeks ago but she was from a aviery , and he only got her to fill his cage untill he got a cockatoo ( shocking i know ) , he never interacted with her either and she was in the smallest cage ever !! . so now she is with us , and we love her , she has a 5ft cage and lots of toys , she adores . well i have been spending lots of time with her , talking to her , she has came out her cage and has a walk about ( the old owner had her wings clipped also ) . but she is so scared , she will sit and listen to u , and will come over when her cage door is shut , but as i said even if we walk by sometimes she jumps to the back of her cage . she has squalked a couple of times and seems to like us talking to her . so anyway my question is , will i be able to hand tame her if i keep persiting with her , i dont want to stress her out !!!
sorry its long but thanks for taking the time to help me xx
i also put my hand into her cage and just keep it still , she walks about still with my hand there but if i move it she flips xx

My son rescued a ringneck a few years back. He had her for about a year along with his Greencheek Conure. They adapted to one another but Harmony never warmed up to my son. She’d come out of her cage and sit on top, watch what was going on but didn’t like to “step up”. He gave her to a lady that had other birds and a lot of time to spend with her and she developed into a very affection, well adjusted, happy companion. It can take a while, but they have to adjust to the environment change and it’s probably best to keep the wings clipped, not as apt to hurt herself if she gets startled. Love and care is the best you can do, you just have to be patient with her, we never know what a rescue has been through.

New Ringneck Indian Parrot Wants To Rest Some?

Question by countrygal_cc: New Ringneck Indian Parrot Wants To Rest Some?
hello yesterday I bought a Ringneck Indian Parrot I am not sure yet if it is a he or she just winned. A friendly bird she likes to sleep some on her food dish she also has one foot up some is this a sign that she doesn’t feel good or is it cause she is young still a baby. I notice she likes to be out of the cage a lot and I don’t want to get her too spoiled cause when I go to work I will have to keep her in her cage. Also what kind of toys is good to get any good links on ebay? I also have another bird buttercup I am keeping her in another room in her cage. I hope I didn’t upset her by buying another bird she acts a little nervous but is doing ok. I want to give both of them attention how many hours a day on each bird when I get off of work.
Do you think my Ringneck Indian Parrot is ok or do I need to take them back the bird cost 325.
the other bird I have buttercup is a cockatiel. If anyone has a Ringneck Indian Parrot what can you feed them
Do you give Ringneck Indian Parrot cuttlebone and mineral block

Ringnecks like other birds like to rest on one leg at a time, it’s normal. Baby birds also need to nap through the day, again normal. I’d keep your birds apart for at least 14 days to make sure the new bird is healthy. Introduce the birds slowly by placing their cages across the room so they can see each other. Cockatiels and Ringnecks can get along, but not always. How fun to have a new Ringnecks, they’re wonderfully loving birds.
