QUAKER PARROTS ENJOY THEIR HOMEMADE ROPE PLAY GYM

    Category: Videos

So I saw this ‘Rope Play Gym’ and just had to make one. My two quakers, Pakita and Charlie, wanted to try it out and ‘demonstrate’ just how it ‘works’. This was not too hard to figure out, as I used to do lots of macrame years ago. I used a spare perch to start the ‘gym’ and then finished it off with a bottom dowel/perch just to keep it stable. Then I added wooden beads and pony beads and made sure there were lots of knots for the birds to climb around and play on. The keets also enjoy it.

My quaker parrot keeps going to the bottom of the cage?

    Category: Forum

Question by Bill F: My quaker parrot keeps going to the bottom of the cage?
He used to do this as a baby all the time. Now he is doing it again. He goes down there and tears at the newspaper at the bottom. There is a grid several inches from the bottom.

I don’t think he is sick … i know people say birds do that when they are dying but i dont think that is the case. i think its boredom. I put a few new toys in his cage, maybe i should rearrange everything?

    Answer by Mz. Independent
yes yes do that! re arrange the cage. it’s a great idea to put toys in the cage too. I believe your bird is bored too.

And do you give it at least two hours of free time outside his cage?

What are some cheap DIY toys for Quaker Parrots?

Question by mars: What are some cheap DIY toys for Quaker Parrots?

    1. Hair bands.
They love to run it through their beaks and chew on it. They also love to use it as a necklace and to pick it up with their feet. It is a good toy and you can get about a dozen of them for fifty cents. And it is safe! My birds love to pick them up and throw them around.

    2. Paper

My birds love to shred paper! They could do it for hours at a time, and still enjoy it! That is what I am looking forward to this Christmas is letting my tiels open their own presents. I think they will like that better than their present. And you can buy two hundred sheets for a dollar, and they love it! Plus it is very safe, cheap, and fun.

    3. Fake Plants

I know, sounds weird. But whenever my grandmother buys fake (only fake) plants and brings them home, they love to chew off the little flowers and stems! They love to shred those and tear it apart. This may be a little bit expensive, but it lasts longer. And it is perfectly safe! They don’t try to chew it, they like to run it through their beaks. Plus you can use this to forage for them. Sprinkle their food in, and you can watch them find it.

    4. Rawhide Bones

Okay, don’t get me wrong, this sounds really weird! But it is actually very good for them! My birds (cockatiels, parakeets) love to chew on my dog’s bones, and they can’t get enough of it! It is a cheap way to occupy them and wear their beak down, plus they love to play with it! And you can use it as a perch, too. This is one of my birds favorite treats! Especially those Dingo bones, they like to pick out the meat inside of it.

    5. Bread Ties

You know those bread ties that tie the bread packages shut? Our birds love those! Just untie them from the package and let them play with it. They love to twist it and run with it.

    6. Straws

Any straws can work. They like to chew them and drag them around, well, at least my birds do anyways. They are really cheap, but our birds love them! You can cut them up into smaller peices if you want.

How can i make my quaker eat pallates?

    Category: Forum

Question by goodluckheart: How can i make my quaker eat pallates?
I bought a quaker from Trader’s flea market. I love her so much. She was plucking her father littlebit when i bought her but it was not noticable. I noticed that she was not talking or making any bird sound at all. She just sits in her cage all the time. she would not eat anything but sunflowerseed.I bring her out of the cage and spend time with her. I put some toys in her cage but she is scared of everything. First, I thoulght it could be due to new place and new owner. Now she is eating vegitables and fruits but she does not eat pallets or fruit seeds. she is eating regularly but she is not active at all. She sits at the bottom of her cage with her eyes close. I took her to the Vet. he charged me $ 120.00 for stool test and visual exam. He gave me an estimate of $ 500.00 for further diagnosis. He put the coller on. I cannot afford that much. I am taking good care of her and spending more than enough time with her. She is comfortable with me but I am worried about her

when my mom bought birds that wouldn’t eat pellets, she put them in an empty clean fish tank and spill out some pellets on the floor of the tank. eventually it will eat pellets.

My sun conure did the same thing. Its screaming for attention. It wants you to pay attention to it. Myy conure demanded a lot of attention and I tried to keep it company while I was gone, I even bought a second bird but she kept screaming. if I petted her or let her out of her cage to be with me she was fine, but otherwise she screamed. Sadly I had to get rid of her because of it annoying my neigbors.
